A Fresh Perspective
By Dawn Herring
Clarity. Self-awareness. Light. Insight. Revelation. Patterns. Focus. Vision. Centeredness.
These are all benefits I have experienced with my journaling practice over the past twenty five years.
Whether I write a prioritizing list, a summary of my day, a novel idea, an interesting and illuminating fact, an inspiring quote, or an insightful observation, the benefits of journal writing are consistent when I take the time to do it every day.
For my morning practice, I start with my night dreams. Then I write a personal entry, first with my dominant hand then with my non-dominant hand. I usually start from the previous night and include how I slept (health), what my thoughts are (emotions) and my plans for the day (priorities).
Journaling gives me a chance to allay fears, release angst, and prepare for my agenda so I have the proper mindset.
For my evening practice, I write an entry detailing the day’s events, surprises, spots of joy and any conflicts I need to deal with.
Journaling is accountability in a nutshell where I also keep track of all business related matters, future goals and plans, and steps to make them a reality.
Plus it’s a great way to get a fresh perspective in all of life’s dimensions.
